Unless you root your Nook, you can't just buy any Android app, but you're limited to the ones here. THis is the link: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/audubon-birds-green-mountain-digital/1106820802?ean=2940043856203. The Nook web browser defaults to B&N as its home page, too. As far as I know, the .99 price is their regular price. Once you buy it and install it in your Nook, the app goes on line and downloads all the birds, descriptions, maps, etc. so you can have all the info while out and about. It looks like the info will be updated as needed, too, and all you need to do is synch the Nook with the Audubon database. I am super pleased with this app. I bought the Nook color as a reader, and the app capabilities are just a plus, but what a plus! Since I don't have a smart phone nor an Android tablet, this Nook helps fill the void. Downloading was a piece of cake (as soon as I turned on the wi-fi the app downloaded). And the photos and descriptions are great. Some of the maps are not complete, and you have to read the description to have an idea of range, but they should be upgraded soon. The app includes all of the US, including Alaska ( not Hawaii). Birds can be accessed several ways, and you can build life/annual/state lists and share them on-line. I am preparing my life lists, but have not checked the on-line capabilities yet. This will never take the place of a paperback guide in the field, as far as speed locating the right bird. But it can serve as a was of maintaining your info organized, and the pictures are so-o-o pretty! I will say I got my ninety-nine cents worth and more. I am not sure if it will look/feel the same in an I-Pad, I-Phone or Android, but it probably will.
