Saturday, June 16, 2012 - OOS Birds Morgan Swamp Join Craig Caldwell and the Ohio Ornithological Society for a morning's birding in Ashtabula County at The Nature Conservancy's Morgan Swamp Preserve. The Preserve's 1300 acres, part of the Grand River watershed, include swamp forest, marshes, sphagnum bog, and sedge meadows. Least Bittern, Virginia Rail, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Marsh and Sedge wrens, Cerulean Warbler and more nest there. We will be accompanied by James Cole, TNC's Ohio Bird Conservation Program Manager, and perhaps other TNC staffers. We will meet at the Conservancy's City Mission Tract for a 7:30 carpool departure and return there about midday for lunch. Space is limited and reservations are required; contact Craig (craig_caldwellATsbcglobal.net) to sign up - substitute "@" for "AT". Detailed directions and suggestions of what to bring and wear will be provided to confirmed participants.
