Hello, I decided to try some lazy "window" birding from my parent's home here in suburban Worthington, Ohio (I am living in the Pacific Northwest). Around noon today, I heard non-resident birds calling from the front yard. We have a large spruce that is over 30 yrs old and my mom and I sighted a male Cape May Warbler with a clear chestnut ear patch and sharp black streaking on the breast. There were also some yellow-rumps in the tree which is probably what I heard from inside. The Cape May had a softer song that was higher pitched when compared to the yellow-rumps. The birds only stayed for about 15 minutes and then moved in a west/southwest direction, possibly towards the Olentangy River (we live near the Worthington Mall and the river is less than one mile from our home). I could not not relocate the Cape May but I did find two yellow-rumps in a spruce tree in the backyard of an adjacent house. I have not seen this particular species listed so I thought it might be of interest. I could not get a photo but I got two excellent views. The migrating warbler diversity is so much more exciting here when compared to my western home!
