Pleased as I am to learn that ovenbirds are flourishing farther north in Michigan and Vermont, they are no longer "uncommon to very abundant" (Hicks 1935), and one of only four warblers he called a nester in every Ohio county. It is now quite rare as a nester in my county, and like other ground-nesters is threatened by pets, worms, and the seemingly universal efforts to manage woodlands for deer and turkeys above everything else.
