Pleased as I am to learn that ovenbirds are flourishing farther north in
Michigan and Vermont, they are no longer "uncommon to very abundant"
(Hicks 1935), and one of only four warblers he called a nester in every
Ohio county.  It is now quite rare as a nester in my county, and like
other ground-nesters is threatened by pets, worms, and the seemingly
universal efforts to manage woodlands for deer and turkeys above
everything else.
