Our first attempt at an early May watch - birds started before 9 am and kept us very busy until 1 pm when the wind went on-shore; after that the birds were few and far between. Left Conneaut at 2:30 pm. New record for Ospreys for us, second highest Peregrine count, plus a beautiful Golden Eagle directly overhead and not very high. Winds were light so there was much circling and kettling by the raptors some of the time. We were at our usual Malek Park site until 1 pm when we tried inland sites with little success. 176 Turkey Vultures 51 Ospreys 10 Bald Eagles 10 Northern Harriers 308 Sharp-shinned Hawks 2085 Broad-winged Hawks 12 Red-tailed Hawks 1 Rough-legged Hawk (directly overhead) 1 Golden Eagle - immature bird 10 American Kestrels 1 Merlin 7 Peregrine Falcons 1 Sandhill Crane Hooded, Palm, Nashville and Pine Warblers (heard from the Malek Park site) Bruce Glick, Aaron Miller, Andy Troyer, David Weaver ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
