Three excellent opportunities to get involved and make a difference at Magee Marsh. Help pull garlic mustard. Contact me and I will fix you up. Hurry though, it's going to seed soon. May 12 , participate in our Walk on the Wildside, Weeds to Wildflowers project from 9:30-2 pm. All monies raised will go towards buying native plants to replace the garlic mustard. Sign up that day or at www.friendsofmageemarsh.org Help us plant native plants on June 7th. The hummingbirds are loving the wild columbine that our volunteers planted last year! Happy Birding! (and better birding without all of that garlic mustard!!!) Mary L. Warren Wildlife Communications Specialist Magee Marsh Wildlife Area 13229 W. (Although I disagree the strategy is anything more than cut and hope, it would be insane for anyone doing it to admit that) While there are lots of things we can do on an individual level, I am calling for the Ohio birding community to figure out what can be done state wide, in our state parks, nature preserves, and wildlife areas. We need to think big picture, large scale action and probably big money. But the action and money will never come without a well thought out plan. To me the crucial questions are: How can there be a readily available stock of native plants available to replace invasives when they are removed from state lands? How can the Ohio birding community contribute to making this happen? If we as a community are too apathetic to be bothered then we have no right to complain when it happens.
