Greetings! I just received a call from Randy Kreager letting me know that the LEAST TERN is still being seen Friday morning, May 18th, at the lake beach at Maumee Bay State Park. I hope he sticks around for everyone to see this weekend! The bird is very skittish and well camouflaged against the sand and debris on the beach. It is hard to see him with the naked eye. As I mentioned on Rarebird.org, your best bet is walking east on the paved path behind the amphitheater hill and working your way north toward the beach near the second & third inlets. He may flush before you see him, but he usually comes back to the same spot. If you see a Killdeer sized bird flying over the lake diving for fish, that's him! Good Birding!
