Aaron- This link will take you to a page where you can find a map of the Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest: http://ohiodnr.com/DNN/forests/vintonfurnace/tabid/23009/Default.aspx It's actually in what is generally considered to be southeastern Ohio, and is just south of a very large block of public land comprised of Zaleski State Forest, Waterloo Wildlife Area and Lake Hope State Park. You can find maps for the area on the page I linked to above. Rules vary on individual properties, but generally yes the land owned by the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources (ODNR) is open to the public. Here's a link to a Google Map satellite view of the area: http://g.co/maps/davcj And yes, it is a great place to go birding! Best of luck. -August -----Original Message----- From: Ohio birds [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Aaron Milenski Sent: Friday, May 18, 2012 11:05 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [Ohio-birds] RFI: Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest I've just learned about this rather remarkable forest area in southwest Ohio, and was wondering if anyone here has ever birded it. It appears to potentially be the best place in the state to see a number of nesting warblers and other birds. There don't seem to be any maps or specific locations listed anywhere. Is this even publically accessible land? any info would be much appreciated.
