Krabill Shelter parking lot of the Medina County Park District: 5 Bobolinks were seen in the tall grass, near the parking lot at 7:45 pm tonight until 8:45 pm when I left the site. 3 males and 2 females – the males hassling each other for the best spot and the tallest weed – the females hanging around with their split personalities of “come to me”, then “get lost” to the males... Several other grassland birds were noted, including meadowlarks. An immature bald eagle flew over, heading toward Chippewa Lake. This is a very good birding spot for grassland species, hawks, herons, gulls, eagles and others as it is open grassland that slopes down to Chippewa Lake. Tall old trees are near the lake, which is where the eagles usually perch. This county park has paved parking, easy walking trails, and a modern portable type restroom. The smaller pond by the parking lot is good for seeing odonates and other species of birds in the smaller shrubs.
