Based on three photos sent to me by Bob Lane yesterday, the Conneaut mystery gull, an adult dark-backed gull, looks to me to be a smallish adult Great Black-backed Gull. I have not seen wingspread photos yet, hopefully those are incoming. The leg color of the mystery gull individual falls perfectly within range for Great Black-backed - which can have whitish, greenish-white, pinkish-white legs/feet. Structure, mantle color, bill size, etc. is fine for Great Black-backed. I've read differing accounts on the size of the bird, from it being smaller than a Herring Gull to same size. Looking forward to more photos-
JB
