I'd like to thank everyone who replied to my info request about Glacier Ridge (which I thought was called Honda Wetlands). Sharing the info I got, apparently the drought has affected the most accessible ponds where the bitterns had been seen and they are quite dry. And this from Bill. Yes, this is at the southern entrance to Glacier Ridge MP http:// www.metroparks.net/parksglacierridge.aspx . The boardwalk where so many marsh birds were seen last year is small, but the marsh is half a square mile. This year the water regime is quite different; while the marsh birds are there--on a visit this spring I had Va rail and soras and Am bitterns out in the marsh--that bit along the boardwalk has been less productive. It still is always worth a visit; the best time is by night, when you have to wait outside the gate till it opens around 630. The birds will not be making much noise this time of year, either.
