Judging by the freshness of the guano examined today, it was not long ago that our six yellow-crowned night herons left Columbus. Both nests--the active one and the abandoned one--seem to have survived the turbulent weather that dropped a 60-foot honey locust with a two-foot bole into my back yard. It is reasonable to hope some of the young will return with the adults next year to restore the two-pair colony for Year 17, even though the city of Bexley's announced plans to make the Alum Creek corridor a more popular recreational attraction may send them elsewhere. We'll see. Bill Whan Columbus ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
