I went down to Evans L. this afternoon for about an hour.  The water level there is still way down from normal; there is some pretty decent shorebird habitat rimming the lake.  This was probably my first ever visit there in July, and I wasn't disappointed.  Highlights were: 6 wood ducks, great blue herons, killdeers, spotted sandpiper, solitary sandpiper, 2 least sandpipers, e. kingbird, n. rough-winged swallow, 15 cliff swallows, barn swallows, e. bluebirds, n. mockingbird, cedar waxwing, c. yellowthroats, and e. towhee.  On the way home I meandered around southern Poland Twp. in an unsuccessful try for dickcissel, but did find e. phoebes, e. bluebirds, n. mockingbirds, field sparrows, and indigo bunting.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
