I walked up the railroad tracks near Station Road Bridge to the eagle nest this morning at about 7 am. The water level is very low right now in the wetlands area. Lots of mud. I saw a number of killdeer, some solitary sandpipers, some spotted sandpipers, some lesser yellowlegs, one least sandpiper and one great egret. I have heard a few people say that they have not seen many green herons this year. If you need your fill, there were at least 10 in this area including adults and youngsters. Lots of other things to see, as usual: A flock of cedar waxwings, juvi and adult red-headed woodpeckers; juvi and adult great blue herons; two hummingbirds, a pileated woodpecker, kingfishers, etc. The young bald eagle was perched near the nest and eventually flew down the river. As I passed under the 82 bridge going north there were some young titmice and young cardinals chasing their parents in the trees. There was also a yellowjacket nest in the tracks in this area. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
