While doing bird banding here at Cleveland Metroparks Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation our banders netted a female and juvenile American Woodcock. Also 15 juvenile and 2 adult Gray Catbirds were banded. A Northern Cardinal originally banded as an adult on July 5, 2003 was recaptured, making him at least 10 years old! While not the oldest cardinal on record (15 yrs, 9 mo), this is a pretty significant recapture. He was captured in a net right next to a juvenile cardinal, so we suspect he is still breeding. This may also indicate excellent site fidelity and the ability to maintain a breeding territory at such an advanced age. http://www.clemetparks.com/images/esig/ode-ms-94x122.png Jo Ann Kubicki Information Specialist CanalWay Visitor Center 4524 E. 49th St Cuyahoga Hts, OH 44125 216-206-1000 office 216-206-1008 fax <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [log in to unmask] <http://www.clemetparks.com/> clevelandmetroparks.com ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
