Hello fellow birders, Last weekend I was in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan enjoying the wide open spaces. I birded and dragonflied ( is there such a word ? ) at Seeny ( camped at the Mead Creek campground ) and Whitefish point. Red - breasted nuthatches were everywhere and I saw many a "jar" of nuthatches there. I was spending hours in forest and I would have the sound of a red - breasted nuthatch almost continually in my ears. At Whitefish point the nuthatches easily outnumbered ( visual sightings ) every other species of bird combined. I would estimate that the numbers of nuthatches out numbered all other species combined at the places I was at. So with the early and many sightings in Ohio already, we could be in for a nuthatch irruption ( are not we overdue ? ) and if the pine cone crop is poor in the north it could be quite an irruption ! May the birds be with you, Henry. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
