Greetings all- We are eight days away from the first of the Local Patch Birding 2012 pelagic boat trips targeting jaegers, rare gulls and waterbirds off of Vermilion, Huron and Lorain, Ohio. The September 15th trip runs from 8 am - 3 pm, sets sail off of Vermilion and visits multiple harbors and scours the Lake Erie upwards of 9 miles offshore depending on weather. The September 15th trip targets special rarities: Long-tailed and Parasitic Jaegers, and Sabine's Gulls. The September 15th trip has a maximum of 27 participants. I just upgraded to an extra-fast boat, and in doing so opened up THREE SPOTS on the September 15th trip. These are rare opportunities to get offshore and seek some of Ohio's most wanted birds. Local Patch Birding pelagic trips are sponsored by the Ohio Ornithological Society and Leica Birding Optics. Last year's incredible success on October and November pelagics saw multiple Parasitic and Pomarine Jaegers. These September trips, the first of their kind, specifically target Long-tailed and Parasitic Jaegers. We are beyond excited for the opportunity.
