I was at Sims Park in Euclid this afternoon 1:00 to 2:25pm with WSW winds 10mph lake had a few small waves became cloudy. There were scoters in three different areas. My ID is estimated: One group of 12 to the east was 1 Surf & 11 White-winged. Then a group of two White-winged by themselves to northeast. Then a group north-northwest approx 12 which were 4-5 Black Scoters, at least 2 Surf and 4-5 White-winged. This group had five female Scaup mixed in to complicate matters. A lot of them were sleeping off and on so I had trouble with the Surf/White-winged in that group then the Mergansers joined them so I gave up on the counting in that group. Also two different groups of Ruddy Ducks and few Horned Grebes and one female Common Merganser in the water with Red-breasted Mergansers flying back and forth in groups. Black Scoters 4-5 White-winged Scoters 17-18 Surf Scoters 3 or 4 Scaup 5 females Ruddy Ducks 27 (group of 10 & 17) Horned Grebes 3 Pied-billed Grebe 1 Red-breasted Mergansers 350+ many groups flying back an forth in addition to the ones in the water. Common Merganser 1 female in the water to the east Bonaparte's Gulls - only few seen up close Nancy Anderson Richmond Hts, OH http://www.flickr.com/photos/nancy_a/ ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
