Fellow birders, Today resulted in TWO new Perry County Year Birds, one of them a life County bird. First of all, our friend Carla called to tell us that a female Evening Grosbeak was at her feeder near New Lex. ( I can't give any more details, because the FBI has been looking for her for years.) Vicki Derr drove down to see the bird to add to our Big Year list which is dangerously close to 180, far ahead of our goal of 150. At almost the same time, my friend Joy and I found a single Lapland Longspur in a field full of Killdeers near St. Joe Lake. This was a county first for both of us, quite a find for Joy. You all know how hard these birds can be to spot on the ground. Quite a good birding day here in Perry County. Through the course of this year, we have found a lot of wonderful places to bird. It is, in fact a great county. I joke about it a lot, but it is a great place to bird, and live.
