I forwarded Tom's post to my brother, Gary Bowman. Gary's reply is inserted below. Tom, is there someone you can call to try to retrieve feathers before they are disposed of? Bruce Bowman Ann Arbor, Michigan ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If the records committee got a feather, an isotope analysis could be done to determine the latitude where the feather was grown. If it shows for the Caribbean, it could be or even likely be wild. If from a northern latitude, it would definitely be an escapee. Not sure of the cost of the analysis. Here is a link about a Colorado Emperor Goose evaluation using that technique. http://old.nabble.com/Re%3A-Stabile-Isotope-Analysis-of-Vagrant-Birds---A- Colorado-Example-td29462390.html and a "Birding" article on the subject from 2004. https://www.msu.edu/~roberba1/Index.html/PDFs/Robertson04Birding.pdf Gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date sent: Mon, 19 Nov 2012 12:05:16 -0500 Send reply to: H Thomas Bartlett <[log in to unmask]> From: H Thomas Bartlett <[log in to unmask]> Subject: [Ohio-birds] White-cheeked Pintail?
