I spent a few hours at Lake Logan on Saturday morning (11/10), and saw all of the species mentioned recently by Dan Weber (minus the 2 hawks), plus a handful of Bufflehead and a lone Lesser Scaup that seemed to be associating with the Ruddies. Also had 2 Ring-billed Gulls, and scads (30+) of Killdeer that were thoroughly enjoying the mudflat at the northern end of the lake. Enjoyed watching a Kingfisher and a female Hooded Merganser successfully fishing in the shallows, and listening to the Bald Eagle pair talking to each other (they were both perched in a tree along the NW shoreline). Songbirds were about what you would expect, with some very vocal juncos in several spots, a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (my first of the season), and some happy-sounding Bluebirds here and there. I could have sworn I heard the chip-note of an Eastern Phoebe at the southern end of the lake (where the bait store/concession stand is), but I never got a visual on the bird, so I'm not 100% sure. It certainly was a lovely weekend to be out there. Hope you all were able to get out there and enjoy it! Good birding, Heather Aubke, Athens Co. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
