Short-ears are moving into the region and it was delightful to flush a bird today at the Lorain Impound. After the bird flew off, I noticed that it was sitting on (caching) a rather large rat. Also at Lorain, three Black-crowned Night-Herons (two in the woodlot & a bird in the marsh). Interestingly, the impoundment has been flooded, and most of the good sparrowing areas from a month ago are underwater. I observed the passerine flight from several locations today, and it paled in comparison to yesterday. I totaled three White-winged Crossbills and ~40 redpolls along the Lorain Co. lakeshore, today.
