Black River Audubon Society *Black River Audubon Society News* ** ** ***Black River**** Audubon Lake Erie Event at Sandy Ridge* North Ridgeville native, Christopher Winslow, Assistant Director of Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory, will present his talk “A Brief History of Lake Erie: Why Are Harmful Algal Blooms Back?” on December 4 at 7 pm at Sandy Ridge Reservation, 6195 Otten Road, N. Ridgeville. Winslow, who attended **Ohio** **University** and BGSU, has also worked with invasive fish species, nutrient loading, harmful algal blooms, and low dissolved oxygen in **Lake Erie**. According to Winslow, **Lake Erie** has been called the most important fresh water lake in the world. It provides shelter and nourishment to countless living organisms, including 11 million people that rely on it for drinking water. “Unfortunately, Lake Erie also faces a number of challenges that OSU’s Stone Lab, Ohio Sea Grant and other partners are working to address,” Winslow explained. His talk will discuss the sources and possible solutions for these problems plaguing **Lake Erie** . ***Black River**** Audubon January Program* On January 8, 7 pm, Paul Motts, Cuyahoga Valley National Park Ranger, will discuss “**Yellowstone** in Winter” at Carlisle Reservation, ****12882 Diagonal Road****, LaGrange. ** ** Motts and his wife, Gretchen (naturalist at Rocky River Reservation) have extensively traveled out West which included two visits to **Yellowstone**. ** ** These talks are free to the public. NO experience is necessary! New participants will be accompanied by experienced birders. Most of the observations will be made while riding, but walking is an option at several sites. Spend anywhere from an hour or two to all day! ** ** The Elyria CBC will be Saturday, Dec. 22.
