I had a chance today to hit a few reservoirs in the Lima area while here visiting the in-laws. My first stop was a goose hangout on Bluelick Rd. about 2 miles west of I-75. Here, I found, among the ~400 Canada Geese, 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and 1 SNOW GOOSE. Then I walked the perimeter of Ferguson reservoir. The adjacent Metzger reservoir held 3 COMMON LOONS and a nice assortment of gulls. The gulls, which were mostly Herring Gulls, were at the north end of the reservoir. Mixed in with them were 4 1st winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 1 subadult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, and 1 1st winter GLAUCOUS GULL. Ferguson reservoir itself held about 1000 Ruddy Ducks. Hanging out with them were - 45 Buffleheads - 25 Greater Scaup - 4 Pied-billed Grebes - 2 Northern Shovelers - 1 Canvasback - 1 Horned Grebe - and a smattering of Mallards and American Black-ducks. A young Bald Eagle stirred things up for a bit, as did a tiny adult Sharp-shinned Hawk.
