Saturday was the Christmas Bird Count at Shaker Lakes. Highlights were a couple of Common Redpolls and a Pine Siskin at the Nature Center, a Bald Eagle flyover seen by Tom Pienkowski and Dave Dvorak in the Doan Brook gorge, and a Red-breasted Nuthatch at Julie West and Gary Neuman's feeder. We also had a handful of different duck species -- Ruddy Duck and Hooded Merganser -- thanks to the fact that the lakes are not yet frozen this year. My ebird lists from the part of the count around the Lower Shaker Lake and Horseshoe Lake and in the vicinity of the Nature Center follow. Not all the species listed above are on these lists, since these sightings were by folks split off in different parts of the count area.
