I checked out the Ashtabula County lakefront this afternoon. There were a few good birds around. At Conneaut the immature male harlequin duck was still present. It was hanging close to the east breakwall. Not a lot else out of the ordinary. A few Bonaparte's gulls hunting the mouth to the harbor. In the harbor horned and pied billed grebe, American coot, gadwall mallard, American black duck, greater scaup, lesser scaup, bufflehead, common and red-breasted merganser, and ruddy duck. West of Parrish Road on the west side of Conneaut along the Lake Road there was a large group of Canada geese. I had one cackling goose in the back end of the flock. A couple miles west of Conneaut 70 tundra swans. At Lakeshore Park in Ashtabula Harbor there was an adult lesser black-backed gull, and the following waterfowl, tundra swan 24, Canada goose, mallard, Am. Black duck, bufflehead, common goldeneye, hooded, common, and red-breasted merganser. I could not find the long-tailed duck. Off I 90, west of Rte 45 there were several flocks of Canada geese in the fields. One flock had 4 snow geese. When I got home I had a flock of 65 tundra swans fly over my house. There definitely was a nice flight of swans and geese today.
