At 9 a.m. Saturday, I saw about ten White-Winged Crossbills feeding quietly in evergreens along the eastern edge of Woodland Cemetery. This location is just north of the cemetery entrance from Wayne Avenue. The group was approximately half male and half female. I've also been seeing Red-Breasted Nuthatches in this area. Eastwood Lake on the eastern edge of Dayton had a good assortment of ducks - Redheads, Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Lesser Scaup, and Ruddy Ducks, as well as many American Coots and a few Horned Grebes. Additionally, a Merlin was perched on a snag overlooking the pond located between Eastwood Lake and the Mad River.
