A check of several access points around this reservoir north of Columbus found most of the surface ice-free, but limited waterfowl numbers. I stopped at several spots around the south end (visitor's center & beach, dam, New Galena) and up near the Cheshire causeway (Cheshire boat launch, Old Africa Rd, SummerRidge access). Dense fog was over the lower reservoir until about 9:00. Notables included: Canada Geese - large flock of 200+ in the lake north of the Cheshire causeway; far fewer in south part of reservoir. Lesser Scaup - 8 off the dam, and another 4 off Old Africa Rd Bufflehead - 4 at SummerRdige, another 1 off Old Africa Rd Goldeneye - 5 off the dam, another 15 off Old Africa Rd Hooded Mergansers - 8 off the Cheshire boat launch Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 at SummerRidge access Gulls - big flocks of Ring-bills roosting on floating ice near beach early, but most flew off to the south by 9:00 N.Flickers - small #s at many stops, topped by 3 at the Visitor's center area Horned Larks - lots of fly-overs, with several at every stop, most heading north. Golden-cr.Kinglets - singles at the Visitor's Center and at SummerRidge E.Bluebirds - singles at New Galena and the visitor's center area Mockingbird - 1 persisting at the scrubby area east of the Visitor's center Yellow-rumped Warblers - at every stop, with the most being 4 around the Visitor's center grounds Tree Sparrow - at every stop, with the most being 4 in the scrubby area east of the Visitor's center ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
