There was a great movement of birds today. The gulls were particularly of interest. The time I watched There were 2761 ring-billed gulls and 1938 herring gulls. Gulls continued to move the entire day. They actually picked up around noon. I started watching then and even went out a while to photograph them as they passed overhead. It combines gull watching and hawk watching and can be fun trying to pick out the different species. Anyways, from noon until about 3:30 I estimated about 9,000 herring gulls and about 1,000 ring-billed, a lot different composition than earlier in the day. Also added after noon were 2 Iceland gulls, 1 Thayer's gull, 2lesser black-backed gulls, 5 glaucous gulls, and 300 great black-backed gulls. I did have a flock of 25 common redpolls come in the yard, but the hoary was not with them.
