I drove through this area (only had 10 minutes) on my way home this afternoon and the lake is still frozen completely - no waterfowl seen. However, as I turned down the lane to the boathouse I saw a large flock of small birds fly into the Alder's behind the boathouse. I only had my 8 x 42's but I could plainly identify several Redpolls as they moved about trees and on the ground, c lose to the water. In the event you have not seen any Redpolls this season I would highly recommend this area. The spot identified above is a regular stop for them but if they are not there just drive down the road to the north and carefully watch each grove of Alder's on the lake-side of the road. They move up and down this shoreline. A couple Hoary's were identified in this flock earlier this winter by some very conscientious birders with spotting scopes. Patience and perseverance!
