Hi, My understanding is that the problem is this: the fish that are being killed are mostly Gizzard Shad. They are not native to such northern latitudes--they got into Lake Erie apparently through the Ohio Canal in the 19th Century. It's not the changes of temperature so much as simply the cold that kills them. I've heard that they can't metablize oxygen at low temperatures, but don't know this from personal knowledge...
