Fellow birders, Was sitting on my prairie deck about 9:00 this evening when I finally heard a Great horned owl calling from the direction of Clouse Lake. Great horned owls nested in our hollow last year and successfully fledged two young, but they had not been heard nor seen this year until tonight. It called constantly for about five minutes, moved closer and called some more. This is probably the most vocalization I have ever heard from a Great horned owl. Other yard birds of note include Green heron at pond L. waterthrush Blue gray gnatcatcher Both kinglets Northern Parula Yellow rumped and yellow throated warblers Brown thrasher and Hermit thrush Joe faulkner somerset, ohio perry county ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
