While bike commuting across Gahanna this morning, I ran across 4 different Red-br.Nuthatches in different locations spanning 4 miles, all calling and all associated with conifer patches, usually planted spruces. Either we've had many hidden wintering birds, or we've had an influx of migrants. They stood out against a rather slow morning for temperate migrants, with modest #s of the expected kinglets, Yellow-rumped warblers, and White-throated sparrows.
