I stopped by these 2 southeast Columbus parks this morning and found only modest numbers of birds, with many of the temperate migrants of the past few weeks in serious decline. The few nice days seems to have given them the opportunity to move further north, and only a handful of neotropicals have arrived so far. The list for 2.5 hours included: Woodpeckers - no sapsuckers and only 2 N.Flickers Flycatchers - still only a few scattered Phoebes at both sites Swallows - small #s of Rough-winged, Tree, and Barn swallows at both sites White-eyed Vireo - on the move, with 2 at Big Walnut Park and another at Blacklick Woods Warbling Vireo - 1 at Big Walnut Park Gnatcatchers - still strong #s, with 10+ at each site Kinglets - fading fast, with only Ruby crowns, and not many of them (3 at BigWaln.,2 at Blacklick) Thrushes - 2 Wood Thrushes singing at each site. Big Walnut also had a foraging Veery. Mimids - none whatsoever, not even a Mockingbird Warblers - Parula (2 at BigW), Blue-winged (1 at BigW.), Nashville (1 at Blackl), Yellow-throated (2 at BigW), Black-thr.Green (1 at Blackl), Yellow-rumped (10 at BigW, 12+ at Blackl), Palm (1 at Blackl), Black&White (1 at BigW.), Hooded (1 stunning male around the swamp in Blackl) Sparrows - singing Chipping common; Fields around Blacklick Nature Center feeders, small #s of White-throated at both sites Blackbirds - no Rusties at Blacklick Woods, but plenty of Redwings and Grackles ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
