Despite the drizzly weather, migrant fallout was only modest at several Columbus parks that I visited this morning. I stopped at the Ohio Statehouse, Scioto Audubon, the Olentangy Wetland at OSU, and Whetstone, and had small clusters of migrants at each, just no big numbers. Notables included: Solitary Sandpiper - 2 at Scioto Audubon, 1 at Whetstone Great Egrets - at least 3 were in the bay of the Scioto river at Scioto Audubon, along with 8-9 Great Blue Herons Green Heron - 1 around shore of bay at Scioto Audubon Herring Gull - 1 adult was still hanging around Scioto Audubon. Woodpeckers - nothing unexpected Flycatchers - still just Phoebes, with birds at Scioto Audubon & Whetstone Swallows - still just Tree, Rough-winged, and Barn Vireos - lots of Warblings, topped by 6 at both Scioto and OSU Wetlands. Whetstone had both Blue-headed and Yellow-throated Wrens,Gnatcatchers - House Wrens & Gnatcatchers common at all 3 sites Kinglets - only a few Ruby-crowns left, with 2 at Scioto Audubon Thrushes - 1 Wood lurking at Scioto Audubon, while 2 Hermits were foraging in the ravine at Whetstone Mimids - singing Mockingbird & Catbird at Scioto Audubon; singing Brown Thrasher at Whetstone Warblers - Yellow-rumps still dominanat, especially at Scioto Audubon, but also had good numbers of Yellows (4 at Scioto, 2 at OSU Wetlands), as well as Parula (Whetstone), Nashville (Scioto), Yellow-throated (2 @ OSU Wetlands), Black-thr.Green (Whetstone ravine), Blackpoll (a nice male at Scioto), Ovenbird (Statehouse), Palms (3 @ Scioto), Yellowthroat (Statehouse) Sparrows - small flocks of White-throats at many locations, topped by 30 at both the Scioto Audubon bikepath and the Statehouse grounds. Icterids - single singing Baltimore Orioles at both Scioto Audubon and Whetstone ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
