The Ruff was seen at Shreve fish pond at the corner of Kister Road and Route 226, today throughout the morning and at least until 3 pm (Liz McQuaid). Many folks are asking about its status, daily, and many folks intend to chase this weekend. If you are waiting on reports, know that as with any rarity your time is limited. The weather is warming up and clearing. However, at this time of the uear shorebirds can stage for at least a week in certain locations. The Ruff has been at this location, offering point blank views, since at least April 1st. It has possibly been within the area before this. Your best bet is to get the car revved and go for it. Shorebirds are not like backyard feeder rarities. This bird has been present for at least 4 days in the same easy to find location. If you are considering the chase at this pint but need advice, the collective advice is "GO." We will continue to update on this bird as much as possible. Your reports tomorrow, Friday, both positive and negative, are much appreciated by the Ohio birding community and Great Lakes birders, who have come from KY, PA, IN, and beyond.
