This morning I heard my first Northern Parula close to my property in western Athens County. This afternoon, during a quick walk along the HockHocking Adena bike path in Athens (east side of town, near Armitage Rd), I found 5 Northern Rough-winged Swallows along the Hocking River, all the same area where I spotted them using a nest burrow last year. A Canada Goose pair is nesting in the same vicinity as well (also a repeat nesting location from last year). Other noteworthy sightings/hearings from this area of the Hocking River: 2 singing Brown Thrashers, 1 on each side of the river. The male on my side of the river was nicely teed up in a tree, very easy to see. Quite a bit of turkey gobbling could be heard off in the distance. Also spotted an American Robin carrying nesting material. Good birding to all, Heather Aubke Albany/Athens County, OH ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
