Fellow birders by county, While Perry County lacks the extensive park system of Franklin county, and our Ornithology "Club" lacks the big numbers, we (as in two) embarked on our own FAIRLY Big Day of birding the back roads of Perry County. *They're actually all back roads*, but we concentrated on the further back ones in Perry State forest, the Rehoboth Reclamation area, Possom Hollow road, the high, forested ridge above that, and our own back yard. We were able to see/hear 82 1/2 species, the half being a possible Least Flycatcher, seen in the last lingering light of the day but heard clearly. Highlights Blue Grosbeak; at least three seen and even photographed in the Rehoboth area Bobolinks; at least five seen and photographed along County 212 ( I think) in Rehobth area Grasshopper sparrow; numerous seen and photographed Wood Warblers; thirteen seen heard and sometimes photographed (Prairie, Blue winged) Red Shouldered hawks; one on nest, feeding two young on property adjacent to ours, one carrying a frog in Perry Forest, and one carrying a snake near Crooksville. This hawk dominates the county, while twenty years ago, it was practically non existent in the area. Yellow billed cuckoo; one at rehoboth We missed, as we always have, Cliff and Bank swallows. Any Perry County birders (all EIGHT of you) or other accidental Perry County birders who can give us some tips on where to find these species would be thanked profusely. We have hopes of accomplishing a Century Day for our county, and therefore would welcome all the help we can get.
