I checked on two good areas for migrants in this north Columbus suburb: Antrum Lake and Rush Creek Village. The former is a riparian area along the Olentangy River, while the latter is a leafy development sited in a ravine complex east of the river. Both had decent migrants this morning, though numbers were down from yesterday. Notables in 2 hours included: Flycatchers - lots of Great Crested (5 at Antrum, 3 at RCV), but also had Pewees, Leasts, Acadian, and Phoebe Swallows - the perennial trio of Tree, Rough-winged, and Barn at both spots Vireos - good movement of Warbling (10 at Antrum) and Blue-headed (2 at Antrum, 3 at RCV). Also had a few singing Red-eyed (both sites) and 1 Yellow-throated (RCV) Wrens,Gnatcatchers - still fair #s of House Wrens and Gnatcatchers, with 4-5 at each location Thrushes - hardly any, with 1 Wood at Antrum Mimids - nothing but Catbirds, but plenty of them Warblers - good diversity, but low #s except for Yellow-rumped (30 at Antrum, 10 at RCV). Others included Parula, Yellow, Nashville (4), Tennessee, Magnolia, Chesnut-sided (6+), Yellow-throated, Black-thr.Green, Blackburnian, Palm, Black&White, Amer.Redstart (5), Canada (1 at RCV), Hooded (1 at RCV) Tanagers,Grosbeaks - 1-2 Scarlet Tanagers at each spot; similar #s of Rose-br.Grosbeaks Sparrows - small flocks of White-throateds still lurking in shrubby ravines at RCV Icterids - fair #s of Baltimore Orioles, with 5 at Antrum and 2 more at RCV Finches - 4-5 Pine Siskins continue hanging around the western edge of RCV; they can be reliably found around the intersection of Riverglen Dr. and Granby St. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
