Whimbrel move through the Great Lakes each spring in impressive numbers - with the core flight path lying to our east where they push up through the Niagara/Toronto shoreline in substantial numbers. Ontario birders do whimbrel counts at certain parks near Toronto and will see large numbers primarily during the Whimbrel "window" of May 20 - May 30.

Yesterday, Alex Lamoreaux in Virginia had a huge flight from a single location in VA (2,430).

While we are a bit west of the core window, Conneaut and Headlands birders should take note, as should anyone planning on birding anywhere along the entire OH coastline. Flocks often do NOT put down on beaches - they are migrating and will be pushing east or west. Likely west. Justin Bosler had an impressive 40+ last week flying high overhead at dawn in the Magee Marsh region.
