We visited Funk wildlife area mid-morning. From the tower, we saw 5 sandhill cranes and one caspian tern. Along Wilderness Rd, bank swallows were massing in the hundreds. They were perched in large groups on overhead wires and down on the gravel roads below. Among these was a totally white swallow we observed well, though could not see eye color. We then hiked into Wright Marsh in the Killbuck wildlife area, parking at the entrance off 226 NE of Shreve. Back on the large north pond, we had a black tern soaring over the pond. There were 4-5 green herons, one osprey perched by the power pole, and 7 kingfishers lined up along an overhead wire. For the day we totaled 42 species.
