Today I was walking the eastern boundary of our property with a forester who is taking a few trees felled or damaged by last year's June 29 windstorm. Around 11:30 AM a cerulean warbler burst forth from somewhere in the canopy with the standard rising three-part song. August 26... Go figure. It just goes to show that you never know what to expect. I last heard cerulean warbler in early July. Some songsters extended their activities later than usual in this wetter than usual summer. But August 26?! Was it a hormonally charged migrant? A persistent and inspired resident? Nature never fails to amaze.
