Sorry, meant to copy the list on this one. BW -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Ohio-birds] NighthawkFirstWave,Gahanna Date: Fri, 30 Aug 2013 09:04:33 -0400 From: Bill Whan <[log in to unmask]> To: rob thorn <[log in to unmask]> Rob-- I saw 27 over the narrow compass of my back yard on the 28th; surely there were more, but I didn't take a walk. Why the twin peaks, do you think? Minnesota had a one-day count of over 30,000 on 21 Aug this year. Some maxima from Columbus: the highest twilight counts of fall movements usually come from late August-early September, and include 3000+ on 9/3/1976 (Thomson 1983:206), 2500 on 9/3/1992 (OC 16(1):21), and a description of circle-soaring by “at least several thousand” over the OSU campus 9/3/1968 (Mueller 1970). Later in fall, 224 were observed 10/3/2006 (OC 30(1):20). One entered the OSU campus’s main library on 10/22/1965 (WCB 11:46). Record late was one lingering 11/20/1975 at High St. and Morse Rd. (J. Stahl, WCB 1(20-21):42). Something magic about 3 Sept maybe. Bill On 8/29/2013 10:07 PM, rob thorn wrote: > The past several nights have seen an uptick of migrant Common > Nighthawks here in Gahanna.
