8 - 10 a.m.

Got a late evening report of a buff-breasted sandpiper at the north end of
the lake yesterday and decided to see if it was still around. It was and
we had great views of it with the scope. We were also treated to a merlin
that landed in a tree about 100 ft. away--not very far with a 20x-60x
fluorite lens scope!

At the south end of the lake, we observed 2 immature and 1 adult bald
eagles. Watched the immature chase and just about catch a DC cormorant. Lots
of activity at the park today. Received a call that the South Park was
crawling with warblers in the walnut trees.

Other sightings for this morning included:

Great egrets - 22
Great blue herons - many, many
Green-winged teals
Mallards
DC cormorants
Killdeers
Northern flickers
Broad-winged hawk
Red-tailed hawk
Cooper's hawk

All of the shorebirds had disappeared except for one buff-breasted sp and a
 couple of hundred killdeer.
