The Columbus Audubon trip to these 2 southeast Columbus MetroParks dodged rain for much of the early morning, having good birding until the rain finally closed in around noon. Blacklick Woods had lots of temperate migrant landbirds, while the Teal Pond area of Pick Ponds had good shorebirds & waterfowl. Notables included: Dabbling Ducks - Teal Pond had 25+ Green-winged Teal, 30+ N.Shovelers, N.Pintail, and Gadwalls, among the expected Mallards & Black Ducks. Other waterfowl - other Teal Pond species included Pied-billed Grebes and Coots, while Blacklick Woods had 4 Wood Ducks Great Egrets - Teal Pond had 7, while Ellis Pond had another 3 Shorebirds - Teal Pond had 8 Kildeer, 1 Solitary Sandpiper, 3 Greater Yellowlegs 4 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Long-billed Dowitcher Raptors - slim pickings, with a Harrier at Mallard marsh and a Kestrel at Ellis Pond Woodpeckers - Blacklick Woods had all the common species, including 4 sapsuckers, 2 Pileated, and 2-3 Red-headed Flycatcher,Swallows - 1 Phoebe was at Ashton Pond in Balcklick Woods, while 2-3 Rough-winged were around Teal Pond at Pick POnds Creepers,Wrens - Blacklick woods had 5+ Brown Creepers and 2 Winter Wrens Kinglets - lots of both species at Blacklick Woods, with 10+ Ruby-crowns and 15+ Golden-crowns Thrushes - nothing other than Robins Warblers - Yellow-rumps common at Blakclick Woods (50+), accompanied by 3 Tennessee, 1 Cape May, & 1 Black-thr.Green Sparrows - lots of Fields, Swamps, Songs, White-crowns, and 1 Lincoln's at Pick Ponds, while Blacklick Woods had 6+ Towhees, flocks of White-throated Sparrows, and 1-2 Juncos Blackbirds - flyover flocks of Redwings and Grackles at both parks..
