I hiked the Coyote Trail at this north Columbus MetroPark this afternoon, and still found a fair bit of migrant activity despite the late hour and windy, cool weather. The eastern loop of the trail had its usual cluster of migrants, but others were along the field edges to the north as well. On the return link along the Dripping Rock Trail, I ran into more blight-aphid-infected Beech Trees....and more Tennessee Warblers munching on the aphids. Notable birds for the afternoon included: Wild Turkeys - a flock of 18 was milling around the nature Center feeders Flycatchers - only had 2 E. Phoebes at different points along the trails Blue Jays - small groups were all along the trial, perhaps 20 in all Wrens - no Winter Wrens, but 2-3 House Wrens were still around the field margins here Thrushes - nothing other than Robins Cedar Waxwings - small flocks, perhaps totalling 40 birds, were scattered in berrybushes around the fields Warblers - mostly Yellow-rumps (16+), but also had Tennessees (7+), Magnolias (3), Black-thr.Greens (2), Palm,& Redstarts (3) Tanagers - a Scarlet Tanager was along the field margin near the field overlook off the Dripping Rock Trail Rose-br.Grosbeak - 1 was along this same wood edge Sparrows - small flocks of Fields were, appropriately enough, in the fields. Also had my FOS White-thr.Sparrow here. Blackbirds - not much here, with only a few flyover Redwings and Grackles. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
