As every fall for the last few years, a northern shrike showed up in my fields early
this evening. (Along the power line easement.) For a few minutes a flock
of eight bluebirds were chattering in the trees around him, but
they lost interest and flew off. Blue jays seemed attracted to him, and
perched in trees nearby.

Keep an eye out for him at nearby Frohring Meadows. He seems to travel back
and forth along the easement every year.
