I just returned from Killdeer Plains where Jim Fry and I birded this afternoon. There is a Yellow-headed Blackbird, last observed, in the field at the SW corner of the intersection of CH-67 and TH-108. It is a well defined female that cooperatively perched atop tall stalks and let us scope it in for a half hour before we moved on. There is an American White Pelican in the SE portion of Pond 27 along CH-68. Northern Harriers have also returned to Killdeer Plains. Assorted waterfowl were at Pond 27 but nothing spectacular as they were a side show to the pelican. Maybe the blackbird and pelican will hang around for the November 3rd program.
