We visited the harbor area of Lake Erie in the East 55th to the East 72nd Street area today, Thursday, from about 9:30AM to about 2:15PM. Our highlights were a Red-throated Loon, a Red-necked Grebe, a female Long-tailed Duck, 5+ Common Terns, 2 gull terrorizing Peregrine Falcons, a single male Northern Pintail, and three flocks of flyby Snow Buntings. On lunch break, we took a diversion to Wendy Park, for a walk out to the old Coast Guard Station. Across the channel to the east at the end of the concrete pier, sat the now well known Brown Pelican, in the midst of white; hundreds of gulls. After rewarding us with about fifteen minutes of viewing, it took flight, headed in the direction of downtown and out of sight. There was no sign of our goal bird today, the Sabine's Gull, or the Northern Gannet, which we fortunately recorded on Sunday.
