Hello Ohio birders,

About an hour ago a Great Blue Heron landed on my chimney top, and for about a minute stood there tall in a good imitation of a White Stork. It then flew off to the south.

We live in a thoroughly developed neighborhood in the Clintonville area of Columbus. The nearest open water of any consequence is the Olentangy River about 3/4 mile away. In 60+ years of birding I've never seen a heron on a chimney.

Such behavior invites speculation into various legends regarding storks, chimneys, babies, etc. etc. but I'll leave it at that: one observation.

Happy birding,

Dave Horn
Columbus
